Doctor Who companion picspam
I decided to browse through the Tragical History Tour website, and found some pictures from the 1973 Radio Times Anniversary Special I didn't know existed. So, here's all the pictures of that special that I know of:

Sadly, there doesn't seem to be a better version of that last picture. If anyone has it, I'll be forever grateful.

ETA: These seem to be from that same Radio Times special:

Ah, big 70's hair.
And the poor women being dragged around by their overly-protective male-friends. Jamie, dear, she'd probably be able to keep up with you better if you'd let go of her arm!

Hmmm... and who's David?
Just Pat: bubblewrapnentari on October 20th, 2008 12:04 pm (UTC)
Some fan, I guess - thougb part of me is wishing it's Tennant, whom we know gets all adorably geeky and hyper when meeting an Old School actor.

And doesn't it look like Wendy is showing us the mangled remains of the lost episodes?

For a brief giddy moment, I thought that was exactly what she was doing. But I realized it was a) probably too early for outrage over the policy, because I don't think anyone outside the BBC knew, and b) I doubt that the BBC would allow it for publicity stills. Wendy looks different every time I see her, it always takes me a minute to figure out who it is.

I think they were probably showing that Zoe had destroyed a computer with her mighty brain again. However, whenever I look at these, I cannot help but think she's going "Look at what they did to The Wheel in Space! It was my debut story!"

Make that into an icon.

Something that I only now noticed: Wendy has the exact same hairstyle as sim!Zoe in those pictures.
Alouzon: DW Zoe Shockedalouzon on October 21st, 2008 12:32 pm (UTC)
Yes, I noticed that right away. And no hairpiece required!
Just Pat: Chucksnentari on October 20th, 2008 12:01 pm (UTC)
Ah, big 70's hair.
I think I should point out that they'll all look like that when I put them all back together in my fic - except perhaps Ben, because I think his big '70s hair might be just too big if he's still in the Navy (I'm still wondering what his rank will be at that time - Lieutenant? Or maybe a Commander already? Definitely too early for him to be an Admiral already, though), even if it's the '70s.

Jamie, dear, she'd probably be able to keep up with you better if you'd let go of her arm!
You do know that's Jamie you're talking about, right?
Ah well, at least Victoria isn't running on her bare feet, like Polly.

Yes, I know. But those photos have always bothered me as it looks like Victoria can't walk upright. They both look quite surprised by the photographer in that 2nd to last photo.

Ah well, at least Victoria isn't running on her bare feet, like Polly.
Victoria's a sensible girl, although I think Ben is barefoot too, seeing how they were first ambushed at the beach. Probably circumstances, rather than a Polly fashion statement.

Exactly. I really don't see our Duchess discarding footwear as a fashion statement.

I shouldn't me amused by the fact Jamie is wearing a low-cost kilt that looks like it came from a highstreet tourist shop with a safety pin. I really shouldn't.
Just Pat: kilt!nentari on October 20th, 2008 01:27 pm (UTC)
We should take into consideration that Jamie lost his real kilt in the lost city of Atlantis, and from that point on had to rely on whatever he could find in the TARDIS wardrobe.

And it could be worse. He could have been forced to spend his days aboard the TARDIS wearing that Viking outfit that Four dons after his regeneration. :P

Hee! oh, Who-fandom, you are a special and peculiar place :D

Incidentally, have there ever been companions who weren't/didn't look human? Or have they all been humanish?

Here's a picspam I made of the surviving episode from that serial, in case you're curious. That story is made of glorious crack.

Incidentally, have there ever been companions who weren't/didn't look human? Or have they all been humanish?
Well, in television canon the only two non-humanoid companions were K9 and Kamelion, though since the latter spent most of his time out of sight somewhere inside the TARDIS there's some debate over whether he counted as a companion. Everybody else was either from Earth, or humanoids that could easily be mistaken by Earthlings (Susan, Romana, Turlough, Adric, Nyssa).
In the comic books there was also Frobisher, who was a metamorph who liked to disguise himself as a penguin, Destrii, and Kroton the Cyberman with Feelings. There might be others, but I'm not really familiar with the comics - in fact, I refuse to acknowledge their existence most of the time, as Jamie dies in one of the comics. Luckily, the canonicity of the formats outside of the TV series depends on the person's perspective.
Oh, and in the Big Finish Audios, there's also C'rizz. I don't know much about him, since I'm not very familiar with the BFAs, but I've heard he's really amazing.

C'rizz! He's a Eutermesan who's vaguely humanoid and can blend into his surroundings. Eutermesans can also do this mentally and emotionally. Did I mention the exoskeleton? (Yay BFAs!)

What is it that Jamie and Victoria are running from? It looks like a big pile of fur with hands. I'm sure it's far more sinister, though—perhaps with big scary teeth?
Just Pat: shockednentari on October 20th, 2008 03:21 pm (UTC)
That's a Yeti - not the Yeti from legends, but a robotic creature controlled by an alien entity called The Great Intelligence. They faced the Yeti on two adventures, The Abominable Snowmen and The Web of Fear (the links will take you to the photonovel reconstructions of the serials at the BBC website, in case you want to see them, since sadly only one episode of each serial survives in its entirety).
Incidentally, the second of these serials has historical importance, since the Brig (then only a Colonel) makes his first appearance here - though UNIT will only be created after this (and precisely because of the Yeti situation, if I remember correctly). Also, one of the Yeti in that story is played by John Levene, who will later play Sergeant Benton.

I think this picture of Jamie, Susan, and Jo is from the same photoshoot.

Hmm, I'm not sure. Besides the small differences in this clothes, Frazer's hair seems shorter in that group photo.

Hmm, his vest is also a different color. I was going by the mid-70s fashion on everyone else. Carol Anne's trousers. O___o;;
